Nathalie Bissig has been invited to create an inclusive, participa- tory, and site-specific work to be placed along the Sentiero delle Leggende (lit. trail of legends) in the Verzasca Valley. The project engages with the natural environment of the location, along with the intangible heritage of legends, involving 11 children from different backgrounds, both with and without Down syndrome. Be- tween June and August, during various meetings, the children created drawings and masks, while the artist photographed their productions. She then processed all the material in her character- istic style and the black-and-white/photo-negative technique, which together evoke a powerful evocative and imaginative effect in the observer. In a simple and intuitive manner, she shared with the audience a creative perspective on legends and diversity. Masks, as well as disguises, serve as a powerful means: by wearing them, they showcase the creativity and uniqueness of each child.

The inclusive and participatory photographic work, titled Memorie e immaginazioni (Memories and Imaginations), is part of the SUP- SI project Patrimonio Accessibile Territorio Inclusivo (PATI), an applied research, experimentation, and equal opportunity promo- tion initiative. Promoted by the Institute of Design of the Department for Environment Constructions and Design at SUPSI, the photographic work was created in collaboration with the Val Verzasca Museum and the Verzasca Foto Festival.

The PATI project enhances the existing cultural heritage along cultural routes for people with disabilities, proposes replicable and ongoing initiatives, and raises awareness in society about diversity as a form of mutual learning.

Nathalie Bissig è stata invitata a creare un’opera inclusiva, parte- cipativa e site-specific da collocare lungo il Sentiero delle Leggende in Valle Verzasca. Il progetto dialoga con l’ambiente naturale del luogo, con il patrimonio immateriale delle leggende e ha coinvolto 11 bambini di provenienze diverse, con e senza sindrome di Down. Tra giugno e agosto, nel corso di diversi incontri, i bambi- ni hanno realizzato disegni e maschere, mentre l’artista documentava fotograficamente le produzioni. In seguito, ha elaborato tutto il materiale nel suo stile caratteristico e nella tecnica del bianco e nero/invert fotografico che, uniti, provocano nell’osservatore un potente effetto evocativo e immaginario. In modo semplice e intuitivo ha condiviso con il pubblico una prospettiva creativa sulle leggende e sulla diversità. Le maschere, così come i travestimenti, sono un mezzo potente: indossandole mostrano la creatività e la diversità di ogni bambino.

L’opera fotografica inclusiva e partecipativa, intitolata Memorie e immaginazioni, è parte del progetto SUPSI Patrimonio Accessibi- le Territorio Inclusivo (PATI), un progetto di ricerca applicata, di sperimentazione e di promozione delle pari opportunità. Promossa dall’Istituto design del Dipartimento ambiente costruzioni e design della SUPSI, l’opera fotografica è stata realizzata in collaborazione con il Museo di Val Verzasca e il Verzasca Foto Festival.

Il progetto PATI valorizza il patrimonio culturale esistente lungo gli itinerari culturali nei confronti di persone con disabilità, propone iniziative replicabili e continuative e sensibilizza tutta la società sul tema della diversità come forma di apprendimento reciproco.

Nathalie Bissig

(ENG) Nathalie Bissig (1981) lives and works in Uri, Zurich and Ticino. After graduating in photography (2004) from the School of Arts and Design in Zurich, she has been working as a photographer and artist. Bissig has traveled to many countries around the world, especially in Africa and Asia, for photographic research and reportage. In her artistic work, she employs various media, including drawing, photography, and object art. Her themes touch on land- scape and the human figure and subtly articulate the often interdependent relationship between the two. Since 2012, masks have been a central theme in her work.

(ITA) Nathalie Bissig (1981), vive e lavora tra Uri, Zurigo e il Ticino. Dopo il diploma in fotografia (2004) presso la Scuola di Arti e Design di Zurigo, lavora come fotografa e artista. Bissig ha viaggiato in molti Paesi del mondo, soprattutto in Africa e in Asia, per ricerche foto- grafiche e reportage. Nel suo lavoro artistico utilizza diversi media, tra cui il disegno, la fotografia e l’arte degli oggetti. I suoi temi toccano il paesaggio e la figura umana e articolano in modo sotti- le la relazione spesso interdipendente tra l’uno e l’altra. Dal 2012 le maschere sono un tema centrale del suo lavoro..
